Following another year of strong growth, global EV sales are on track to surpass 20 million units in 2025, representing over a quarter of all new car sales worldwide, according to the International Energy Agency's (IEA) latest Global EV Outlook. In 2024, sales topped 17 million, pushing electric cars above the 20% market share threshold for the first time, in line with previous forecasts. The momentum has continued into 2025, with sales rising 35% year-on-year in the first quarter alone, and new records set across all major markets.
